This is a Lexicon entry: the mechanism, when it shows up, and the countermeasure. The full correction, with real-world cases and the audit prompt, hasn't been written yet.
When it shows up
Estimating when you last visited the doctor. Recalling when a news event happened. Survey responses about "in the past 12 months" behaviours. Judging the pace of a project's progress.
Failure mode
Planning errors based on distorted time estimates. Survey data systematically biased by temporal displacement. Personal narratives with compressed or expanded timelines that distort self-perception.
Countermeasure
Anchor temporal estimates to verifiable dates (calendar entries, receipts, photos). When surveying, use bounded recall periods with landmark events.
