This is a Lexicon entry: the mechanism, when it shows up, and the countermeasure. The full correction, with real-world cases and the audit prompt, hasn't been written yet.

Definition

The feeling that one's current life is merely a prelude to an idyllic future, which is often a mirage that leads toward death.

When it shows up

Long career plans, delayed gratification strategies, 'I'll be happy when…' thinking. Life organised around a future payoff.

Failure mode

Present life is treated as instrumental preparation for a future that keeps receding. The future, when reached, relocates further forward ('I'll be happy when the next thing happens'). Life is spent in preparation for life.

Countermeasure

Identify one thing in the deferred vision you could do now (not all of it). Do it now, even in smaller form. Test whether the projected happiness actually arrives, before the future arrives; often it's less than projected.
