Short-term cycles of effort and reward, common in gaming and social media, that can trap individuals in addictive behaviours.
When it shows up
In any digital product designed for engagement; when using social media, gaming or streaming services.
Failure mode
Continuing long after you wanted to stop. The "one more" cycle that converts intention to inaction. Willpower exhausted by repeated resistance to short reward loops.
